I am writing to tell you how well I have been looked after over the last few months in Torbay Hospital where I have been treated in the Oncology and Radiography Departments and in the Ricky Grant Day Unit.
I have found nothing but kindness and support, and although I am sure that many patients are grateful to their carers, the ones who treated me were wonderful.
I was particularly struck by two things; first the cheerful, helpful atmosphere that they engendered.
People coming to be treated are wary at best, and many are apprehensive, but they put us all at our ease with their lively professionalism.
Secondly, as there was inevitably time while receiving treatment. to watch how the organisation was working, I was very impressed by its efficiency.
I am sure you will always be looking at ways to improve it, but the cleaners, porters, messengers (I don't know their real titles), and the very many levels of sister, nurse and radiographer in their colour-coded uniforms were all so efficient, and, again, cheerful.
The nursing and radiography staff were not only skilled but they were pro-active and obviously thought ahead about the future treatment of their patients.
There was no feeling that any of them 'were just doing a job'.
I have been in charge of a large organisation and know that a goodwill and can-do atmosphere created by the staff is priceless.
Everyone seemed to me to be understandably proud of their work at Torbay, and I am most grateful for their care.
"Excellent Care in the Oncology and Radiography..."
