"Twisted my ankle on a pavement 12 hours later I..."

After twisting my ankle walking, I went to bed with an ice pack and elevating as was so painful.

About 4 hours later there was a bruise and swelling. Several hours after that I could not put weight on it at all.

I followed all of the advice on NHS website referring to a sprain, but it was still extremely painful.

About 1030 in the morning my friend took me to A&E Milton Keynes.

The staff were very friendly checking me in and the porters were having a great laugh at my hobbling technique - I was laughing and they recognised I was in good humour!!

I was seen by the Triage nurse within 15 minutes who said it is likely a bad sprain but the swelling/bruising was a concern that it may even be a break.

A doctor saw me about 20 minutes later and he was also very good, recognising I was still laughing at myself they smiled, looked me in the eyes and said... does this hurt - Oooowwwww what about this?

No I can't feel anything there at all... and This?

Oowwww again!

After the pain they said, oh dear I reckon it is broken, off to Xray.

15 minutes later I was Xrayed and the nurse said, don't move - you have a nice break right there... pointing at my metatarsal (5th)

I was then wheelchair bound back into the doctor who showed me my Xray - and we were quite impressed by the nice straight line of the break.

They then got me to the treatment room, where a lovely nurse bandaged me up - they showed me the crutches I was now to take and sorted me out the Fracture Clinic.

The Triage nurse from earlier came and found me... asked how it was - when I told her it was a break they were lovely telling me I could go for a run with a cast on... Joking aside everyone in MK were fantastic.

Sunday Morning, I dreaded the reception and care but it was second to none...

Thank You for recognising I prefer to laugh than cry, thank you for being gentle (apart from the well placed prodding to assess my area of concern, Doctor.)

Thanks, I just wish I was not a runner and dog walker, sitting still and resting does not fill me with excitement!
