"Fantastic maternity care"

At 32 weeks pregnant I contacted the maternity unit suffering a bleed. I was very anxious but as soon as I spoke to a midwife on the phone I felt reassured. I was told to present at the unit which I did. All the staff were very caring and it did not take long before I was examined by a doctor as well. I was required to stay overnight in hospital and again was very well looked after in the maternity ward. It was this experience that made me want to give birth at this hospital.

At 37 weeks my waters broke but no contractions so I went to the Horton. The care I received during induction was fantastic. The midwife was so patient and supportive. They talked me through everything and after offered to discuss anything I hadn't understood or was worried about. The midwife then got me tea and toast and gave me and my partner lots of time with our new baby before sending me to the ward.

The following day it was discovered my son was jaundiced and had too many red blood cells so required a spell in SCBU. He spent three days there and in total I was on the ward for seven days. Throughout this time I was very anxious and tearful but all the midwives were so supportive and could not do enough to help me. Incidentally, the neonatal nurses were also exceptional. I cannot recommend this maternity service enough.
