"Everything. The wards were dirty ..."

About: Rochdale Infirmary

(as a relative),

What could be improved

Everything. The wards were dirty and patients were left alone for hours on end even when calling for assistance.

Anything else?

My father was admitted into ICU as a result of an acute renal failure in April 2009. Whilst in ICU the surgical team decided to perform a bilateral arthroscopic washout and TKR - without formal consent. This shows a complete lack of appreciation for the patient's immediate clinical need and I'm afraid to say he has suffered multiple post operative infections as a result of these procedures. He has since recently had another TKR and has still not been discharged from his initial admission 3 months ago.

This is all a result of poor clinical judgement, a disregard for any protocol and a lack of appreciation for the patient's needs, not to mention a failure to seek any kind of informed consent.

To see this kind of practice propogated within a modern day NHS is thoroughly disappionting.
