"Nothing."

About: Rochdale Infirmary

(as a relative),

What I liked

Nothing.

What could be improved

I was shocked and dissappointed by how my Grandmother was treated whilst on Medical Emergency Admissions Unit. She was treated like a number not a patient. She was left alone in a side ward and reported to me she had not even been bathed. The nurse seemed to be surprised when I requested that she be washed down everyday. It was also left to me to point out a number of medical concerns which only then did they respond to. I didn't think it was my job to point out medical problems whilst visiting? The nursing staff I encountered were incompetent and had no people skills.

I am sure that there are other very competent staff on the ward, but it shouldn't they all be? The visiting Doctor spoke to my Grandmother with no respect whatsoever.

I was very unhappy with the service, everyday was a fight for quality care that was only recieved when the Grandmother moved wards.

Anything else?

When my Grandmother was moved to another ward in the Infirmary the difference in the quality of nursing care was undeniable. These nurses actually treated my Grandmother like a person and were both caring and professional. A different type of nursing all together and I can only applaud them.

We are sorry that you felt that your grandmother did not receive appropriate care whilst on the Medical Admissions Unit and have raised your concerns with the Divisional Nurse Manager for Medicine at Rochdale Infirmary. If you would like to discuss this in more detail, please contact the PALS team on 01706 517354.

We thank you for your comments regarding the ward that your grandmother was transferred to.
