"When I left."

About: Royal Oldham Hospital

(as a relative),

What I liked

When I left.

What could be improved

I am deeply concerned at why medical staff neglected and ignored my mother after they diagnosed my mother in Autumn 2008.She was found to have cancerous tumours which would need chemotherapy. She had had chemo in 2001 for overian cancer, plus a hystorectomy.

She was told to avoid stressful situations if possible.Sadly,my father's health in the years afterward was not good, and after various ailments, was diagnosed with leukemia in March 2008.This was a crushing blow which affected my mother severely. She began complaining of stomach pains in Summer 2008,and was referred for a scan at Oldham in Autumn 2008 where she was diagnosed with tumours and told she required chemo;but inexplicably, she was sent home and not referred to a cancer specialist for treatment, unlike my father who was referred for treatment by Tameside Hospital to Manchester Royal Infirmary after a few days. For 5-6 weeks she was in decent physical health, and she should've had chemo in this period.Even more inexplicably,an appointment at Oldham in early November was cancelled.By Xmas, she became very ill with bowel problems, and needed a major operation at Oldham in January. She could not have chemo for six weeks. The cancer had now spread, and she died on Feb 26th.If she had been referred for chemo in Autumn 2008,this would not have happened, and she would not have gone through the three months of suffering that she had.At this time, she was in a decent enough physical state to have had chemo, but the medical staff involved through their neglience and complacency by delaying and not referring her for the cancer treatment required did not not give her the chance of more life.My father was devastated like myself;he sadly died on April 6th after his own battle against leukemia.

Anything else?

I am also deeply unsatisfied with the reaction from the PALS office after putting to them in writing my concerns;I was insultingly patronised with a 2 minute phone call which totally ignored the full details and concerns of my mother's treatment, and how it was delayed by far too long by the medical staff involved.I wish to remain anonymous as I have no choice but to make a formal complaint about what happened to a seperate body.
