"Exemplary care in haematology"

About: Airedale General Hospital

Our mother, was treated in Ward 19 at Airedale for 6 weeks and has now been discharged to the Marie Curie Hospice in Bradford.

Our mother has received the most fantastic treatment at Airedale and we wanted to write to thank everyone for all that they have done and to give our observations on the way in which the hospital performed.

Too often people write with complaints but we think it is important that you also are aware of the positive sides of the hospital.

Mum is 89 years old and had previously been in good health. She was admitted to Ward 2 on an emergency basis following the receipt of very bad blood tests which had been organised by her GP.

She received intensive and efficient care in Ward 2 and the following day she was diagnosed as suffering from Acute Leukaemia and was admitted to Ward 19 under the direction of Michael Sponaudakis.

The Consultant has given superb care over the last 6 weeks and has always found the time to talk to us about mother’s illness and treatment on a regular basis.

We have been impressed with the way in which the team came up with a plan for her treatment and implemented it, responding to the many setbacks she experienced over her stay.

They have been supported by a wonderful team of nurses and auxiliary staff who have given mother every care they possible could in an efficient cheerful and caring way.

We have not met anyone that we could fault in any way.

We believe that this all happens because the Airedale Trust have developed a brilliant ethos for the running of the hospital. We are only too well aware that some other Trusts fall far short of the standards you deliver and we hope that the NHS in general learns some lessons from the manner you deliver treatment and care at your hospital.

Our heartfelt thanks to everyone involved at Airedale Hospital
