"Coronary care, late or no food - Northern General "

About: Northern General Hospital / Cardiology

(as the patient),

I found it excellent that I was treated straight away at coronary care for heart problems but I felt I was treated as an inconvenience by non nursing staff. When I changed to a mixed ward it was noisy, and I felt embarrassed for the females when visiting the bathroom. The meals we received were either later, or we didn't get one at all, but the food was OK.

Moving from one ward to another was a problem in as much as never having your choice, sometimes with no food at all for certain meals. One patient, a lady from South Yorkshire, was a diabetic, needing insulin jabs daily but was given a dinner totally unacceptable for a diabetic and was told that was all there was left. She had obviously had several problems previously and she phoned her husband and discharged herself in tears.

Although there were problems, I have nothing but respect and admiration for all the staff and would like to thank all the coronary care staff and Tom on the adjacent ward.
