"They saved my son's life"

About: Royal Sussex County Hospital

My husband & I took our 15 yr old son to the royal Alexandra children's hospital in January 2013 as he had been unwell. Staff dealt with him immediately they thought he had menicocgal septeciama & started treating him immediately. My husband stayed with him overnight & rang me at 7am the next morning telling me our son was being transferred to London to the evelina children's hospital part of St Thomas' hospital. During the night they had listened to my sons chest & found that he had a severe leak on his right heart valve & he also had infective endocarditis. We had never heard of this so it was a very scary time for us. Anyway our son was transferred to London on the Thursday & on the Sunday had open heart surgery. We are so thankful to the consultant and team who performed the surgery & also the lovely doctor who our son see's in outpatients. Our son is 18 now he still has a moderate leak on his heart valve but we thank god everyday he is still with us. Thank you to all the staff involved.

Many thanks for posting such a heart-warming story, which I will be very pleased to share with the Team at the Royal Alexandra Hospital.

It is lovely to hear that your son is doing well despite his cardiac condition.

Kind regards,
