"Terrible - would avoid at all costs"

About: Rosie Hospital

I had a dreadful experience at the Rosie.

I could write about it for hours, but for simplicity I shall summarise in bullet points: 1. I was forced into doing things that I absolutely did not want to do. I was made to give my baby formula milk from day 1 for no good reason. Due to me not breastfeeding much, I never established enough of a milk supply. I made it very clear to all staff that I wanted to exclusively breast feed and they took absolutely notice. Thanks to the staff at the Rosie, my baby is now completely formula fed. I am deeply upset about this as it was hugely important to me that my baby was breastfed.

2. Hygiene. The gas and air was covered in another patient's blood!; blood stained sheets; sheets that were never changed; toilet only cleaned once a day in a ward shared by 3 women.

3. Medical staff going completely over the top with tests. My baby who was perfectly healthy had so many tests done for possible conditions, it was ridiculous. At one point they wanted to do a lumbar puncture for meningitis when she didn't display a single symptom! 4. Staff keeping us in far longer than necessary and making me believe I wasn't allowed to leave, which was completely untrue.

5. It was impossible to sleep due to the bright lights, the noise and the heat. I was kept in for a week and during this time must have slept 2 hours per night at the most. Even though there was absolutely nothing wrong with me or my baby we were forced to stay the entire week when we could have left after a day or two.

Thank you for taking the time to let us know about your experience of the Rosie Hospital.

I am very concerned to learn that you are so unhappy about the care you received, together with your complaints about the facilities and the hygeine issues.

I have passed you comments to senior staff at the Rosie, but please contact the Patient Advice and Lisison Service (PALS) on 01223 216756 or email pals@addenbrookes.nhs.uk so that we can look into the circumstances in more detail and respond to you personally.
