About: North Manchester General Hospital

(as the patient),

What I liked

From the getting ready at the pre-surgery area which was friendly and helpful where most the information was given, to bed preparation. Following on to the anesthetist who was A1 in preparing you for going under the anaesthetic and making you relaxed very nice so you just slipped under, that was perfect and calm.

The nurses that brought you round after surgery again A1. The nicest thing of all was the ward nurse from B1 who collected me from post op and pleasantly introducing themself and making you feel very special. Also I would like to mention the care of the porters in wheeling the trolley to the ward. And then the rest of the ward staff performing their duties. Nothing was to much or inconvenient for any of the staff in helping after the operation as I could not move from nurses to the brew lady. During the night the pain was severe, it was no trouble to call a Doctor for a block pain killer even to the point of a night nurse making me a cup of tea in the middle of the night. I did not know all the names but all were A1 and a credit to ward B1. A special mention to a couple of nurses as I remember their names. Throughout my three nights I was treated with dignity and respect. My bed was kept spotless as was the whole ward continually with clean bedsheets when needed. The morning rounds were a pleasure and I would just like to say a big Thank You to all. I was under the care of the consultant himself the most professional pleasant and courteous of Consultants, regards Nigel Mather

What could be improved

The only problem is the wait in the admin area with lack of awareness as to progress. Sometimes you think you have been forgot. Also with the wait of a few hours before being processed some more comfy seating may be provided? also some information stating that it may be a while before you are seen. I know it is only a minor issue but it could be a time to settle a patient more. Nigel Mather

Anything else?

In the future I require a full knee joint replacement and I shall insist on this Hospital if the operation is carried out here as I trust this hospital 100% in all areas especially staff. I hope it never changes. I have had a number of operations here and out-patient visits together with many x-rays and other department visits and I have never had reason to complain or even think anything bad. I also like the car parking, the cost to have my car secure is satisfactory and I hope some of the funds go to the hospital. Congratulations on a successful and professional hospital. Nigel Mather
