On 22 August at approx 0730, I was unfortunate to have a smash in my car on the M74.
Luckily a kind person stopped to help and it turned out to be a Paramedic who was on his way to work. His name was Derek and I think he said he usually works in Cumbernauld, but was working around Wishaw on this occasion.
He was so comforting and could see I was in pain from what was suspected to be a broken ankle. He kept me distracted and we had a laugh until the ambulance arrived.
It is always expected for medical professionals to stop and assist when they see an incident like that, but he went above his call of duty and took photos of the incident as I was unable to. All while ensuring I was warm enough, comfortable and safe at the side of the road. I was lucky that he happened to be there at the right time.
The amulance crew who arrived were equally as friendly and I have to say my first experience in the back of an ambulance was a good one despite the circumstances! The staff at Wishaw A&E were efficient and chatty, and I was discharged later that morning after a lesson on how to use crutches.
"Friendly and efficient Paramedic who had not even started his shift yet."
