"Post natal care terrible"

About: Darlington Memorial Hospital

Staff on labour and delivery were fantastic and couldn't be faulted. However once moved the post natal things were very different. There was clearly politics between the two wards, but patients do not need to be involved in this. 10 months later and I'm still upset my how I was treated, especially by one midwife. I have never been made to feel so small and pathetic. I had a planned section as my first baby died the two years ago, a section was decided by my consultant and myself. The midwife who took over my care spoke about me as if I was an inconvenience whilst the midwife from L&D handed me over. Demanded to know why I had a choice about method of delivery, I was crying at this point at having to explain myself to this so called caring nurse! Even though it was clearly documented in my notes and had already been discussed with the handover midwife. And despite me being in tears they did not even bat an eyelid as to who I was upset or ask what was wrong. Due to personal reasons I chose to bottle feed, again was made to feel useless for this. Help was given to the other two ladies in the ward with feeding, changing and care of baby and was totally ignored, the other two ladies has given birth PV and were up and moving about, but both were breastfeeding. My baby is now nearly 10 month old and I have tried to put it behind us, but can still see the disapproving look from the midwife from the end of the bed. I did not dare ask for paracetamol so suffered in pain until the next shift came on, as I was that intimidated by them.

They may have been having a bad day, sbd annoyed with labour ward however I feel my whole experience is a bad one due to this, should I be fortunate enough to have another baby in the future I will not be attending DMH for fear of the same treatment.
