"My surgeon was excellent, and ..."

About: Stepping Hill Hospital

(as the patient),

What I liked

My surgeon was excellent, and treated me with dignity and total professionalism. When I eventually got to see him I was given a date for surgery, but this was after waiting an awfully long time initially to see him.

What could be improved

Administration. There is no evidence of joined up communication or professional practices in the administration of appointments, call backs after enquiries...etc.

Some nursing staff let the hospital doen very badly by their attitude. I was left without care for over an hour after vomitting heavily post surgery. All because a nurse didn't bother to tell anybody else that it had happened. Then I was made to feel uncomfortable, or as though I was being unreasonable... that I was less that happy about this.

Anything else?

I came in for essential surgery. Therefore had no alternative. But the hospital has a long way to go in order to bring all aspects of care up to a satisfactory level.

Please do not treat patients as an insignificant 'onlooker' in the their own care and treatment.
