"Parking"

About: Freeman Hospital

At present I have a family member in the freeman long term, their partner visits them every day for 5-6 hours for support at this very traumatic time. The patient is obviously not bringing a wage into the household while in hospital. There really should be something put in place for long term patients, to waive parking charges. The patients partner is paying something like £40-£50 per week to support their loved one. This really can't be right. Especially at this very difficult time.

Thank you for taking the time to post your review on NHS Choices.

We understand that visiting patients in the hospital on a long-term basis can be a difficult and very worrying time for visitors and we know that parking can lead to additional stress for some people. Please be assured that we are currently reviewing our car parking facilities and concessions with the aim of making these more consistent for all visitors.

The Newcastle upon Tyne Hospitals have concessions in place for any visitors where the patient’s stay is likely to exceed seven days. This concession is provided at £21.00 per week (£3 per day equivalent) and considers the average cost of return public transport ticket. For further information about parking costs and concessions please contact our Transport and Facilities Department on 0191 223 1353.
