"5 days inpatient care"

About: Luton & Dunstable Hospital

Following ambulance delivery to A&E on Saturday night I received excellent care in A&E and was then admitted to ward 4. Again my care seemed to be excellent but, after being told by a consultant that I had to stay in until I could undergo tests on Monday, the ward sister came to discharge me on the Sunday afternoon. I explained that there must be a misunderstanding and the consultant concerned was called and then came to apologise and sent me to ward 12. On the Monday a new consultant came to see me and said that I did not need any tests and that there was nothing wrong with me. I explained my story again but there was no record of anything . I had to enlist the help of my wife and a doctor friend who eventually convinced them that I did need a test and, late on Monday I was told that this had been arranged for Tuesday. On the tuesday I was taken for the test only to find that the wrong one had been ordered. The ward consultant denied that any such mistake could have been made and another day of fighting ensued. Eventually I got my test on the Thursday which confirmed that I had been suffering from a serious illness which had remained untreated all that time. no apology or any acceptance of anything wrong with the communication within the hospital. What would have happened if I was confused or did not have outside professional help?
