I am a GP. My parents have been to this hospital as private patients and have always been treated extremely well.
My sister has just had a big gynae operation as a NHS patient. She woke up after the operation groaning in pain. She was made to move onto her hospital bed herself post anaesthetic, despite obviously crying out in pain. She was not helped by staff at all.
She had a morphine drip (PCA) post op. This was working well but removed after 24 hours, in the morning. That day she was only given paracetamol all day. When I visited that evening, she was in obvious, extreme pain. I had to ask the nurse specifically for oral morphine, as they were only offering paracetamol. It helped. We then had a phone call at 5am- her call button had fallen from the bed, she could not reach it and no nurse had been into the room for hours. She was in agony. We called the ward- the nurse was rude and just asked why the patient had not rung herself.
There is a clear difference between NHS and private pateints. Very unhappy with the pain management and post op care so far. Extremely disappointing.
