"Services at CMH rheumatology department"

About: Central Middlesex Hospital

I have been a patient with the rheumatology dept for a number of years now and I have seen improvements in the service by the team. Mainly the access to the Clinical Nurse Specialist for advice especially as the emergency access service was discontinued. This was invaluable it meant when patients had a flare up of their condition they could be seen by the team quickly., and this prevented delay in treatment and worsening of patients condition, and thereby prevented hospital admission.

There has been talk of having a dedicated nurse advice line for patients which I think should be explored further.

The inclusion of exercise classes, craft classes, having relevant speakers attending meetings, helps to give patients options as to self help, to manage their conditions, and participate and take responsibility for their health issues.

Having a website also means patients who may not be able to attend meetings etc , can keep up-to-date with whatever is going on in the department, new treatments and can put forward their suggestions and ideas, and be involved in decision making.

The Day unit and rheumatology out-patient, work effectively and flexibly to accommodate patients needs. They are always professional, but friendly and cheerful whatever the situation.

The clinical care I have received in the Day Unit has been excellent. I am happy to highly commend the staff for their care.
