"Care of my 91 year old mother"

About: Derriford Hospital

My mother was fiercely independent and completely compus mentis, but it was clear she was becoming more and more frail to the point where she was admitted into Shipley Ward.

She could not have had better treatment anywhere. The staff were outstanding. They treated her with absolute respect, sensitivity, kindness, patience, understanding and professionalism.

The

The staff worked day and night to ensure my mother was made as comfortable as she possibly could be and everyone did their absolute best to keep her spirits up, transferring her to a private room as it became necessary. Not only this, but they also made every endeavour to support the family as it became evident that my mother was not going to pull through.

We were kept fully updated on my mother's condition and were given unlimited access so that we could stay with her.

During that time, we could not fail to be impressed by the staff in Shipley Ward and it has given us much comfort to know that she had us all with her to the end. We know everything possible was done for her and for that we shall be eternally grateful, in particular to her doctor.

In addition, once my mother had passed away, we were given time and support and were fully briefed on the procedures that followed, which was immensely useful.
