"Sometimes I'm so angry at dementia"

About: Burns Day Service

(as a service user),

Dementia is a terrible thing, I’d be doing ok if it wasn’t for that. I come to the day centre every week but I’ve never talked about dementia and I haven’t heard anyone else mention it. I don’t want folk to think there’s something wrong with me. There are no pills I can take for dementia and sometimes I just want to scream, I’m so angry.

My daughter convinced me to come to the centre. I didn’t want to at first and I used to say ‘there’s nothing wrong with me’ but there was.

The day centre is marvellous, really and truly. The staff are good, there is always somebody there if you have a question. I like the way they treat you, they make things easier for you and you can have a good laugh with them. Sometimes you go places and people can’t be bothered with you but it’s not like that here.

You get tea and toast when you arrive in the morning and then your dinner, everything is laid on.

I like going on days out like to Saltcoats or to Centre Stage. Centre stage is marvellous, all the boys and lassies who entertain us are smashing.

Dear greatgranny

I am glad to hear that you continue to enjoy attending Burn Day service and you enjoy the activities and meeting people who attend the service. Thanks you also for your kind words regarding the staff - I will ensure these are passed on.

I am sorry to hear that you feel and unsupported with your diagnosis of dementia and you have not ben given the opportunity to discuss this with anyone - if you would like to contact me on 01294 310222 I would be happy to arrange for this to be done

Kind regards

Louise
