"admission to ECU via A+E"

About: University Hospital Wishaw University Hospital Wishaw / Emergency Department

(as the patient),

I attended Wishaw General A+E on Wednesday evening 9/9/15 with excruciating right back pain. I wish to thank all the staff who saw me especially CSW Karen, Staff nurse AnneMarie, the porter who also wheeled me around when I fractured my ankle 5 weeks earlier [hows that for continuity of care! ] and all the medical staff.

I had taken analgesia so by the time I arrived in A+E my pain was settling so I felt a bit of a fraud but thankfully I waited to be seen and I was treated with the utmost respect. I was admitted to ECU some time later and I wish to praise the staff in this area especially Bella the Staff nurse and Ryan the CSW/student nurse who were both professional and friendly. The ward ran like a well oiled machine. All my tests were explained and carried out on time. At no time, even although the staff knew I worked in the hospital, did I feel that I was given preferential treatment - all of the patients in my room were given preferential treatment!

Turns out I had bilateral pulmonary emboli! I was informed about all aspects of my care regularly during my time in the ward and at no time did I feel unsure of what was to happen next. Apart from my illness it was a thoroughly enjoyable experience. Thanks once again.

Dear Onion,

Im sorry to hear that you have recently been unwell resulting in you having to attend the Emergency Department and then admitted to the Emergency Care Unit. This must have been a worrying time for you.

I am pleased that the assessment, care and treatment you received was a positive experience.

The staff in the Emergency Department and ECU will be delighted to hear that you were treated with respect and you found them to be professional and friendly.

The multidisciplinary team work hard to ensure all patients are kept up to date with their individual care plan and you found communication was effective and you also found the care to be of a high standard.

I will pass on your kind words to all the staff that you met during your stay in ECU and ED.

I hope that you are making progress and on the road to recovery.

Thank you once again for taking the time to share your experience and your kind words.

Warm Regards

Andy
