I was recently referred to the Oral Surgery unit because of some suspicious looking patches in my mouth. The consultant requested 2 biopsies to make sure they were nothing serious.
The biopsies were completed without any issue and a follow appointment for the test results were booked in for 2 weeks later. Everything was fine up to this point.
I then received a letter informing me that my appointment had been cancelled and I had to call to reschedule.
On calling the Central Appointments Office, I was informed that the next available appointment is in January next year, 4 months later! I asked if I could see someone else but was told that I had to see the same consultant even for test results. Apparently, there are no other options other than to wait.
This is absolutely appalling situation, being expected to wait 4 months for test results which may be life-threatening. I told the man dealing with appointments that there was no point booking me in for that appointment as by that time, the situation will have either cleared or gotten a lot worse.
I am now left in the awful situation where I am unable to get my test results within a reasonable amount of time.
"Appointment for test results cancelled, wait 4..."
