"Operation cancelled again"

About: Royal Sussex County Hospital

Totally disgusted with this hospital. After waiting over 2 years for a Hartmanns reversal I was finally given a date of the 9th September. It was written all over my notes that if I was given a date it was not to be cancelled due to me being a single mum to a special needs child, and I would have to sort out respite care for my child. This was not an easy task for me to complete. Well all was sorted I fasted for 36 hours like they asked me to and then with an hour to go before I was due to be in hospital they phoned and cancelled my operation due to no beds. Totally disgusted with how I've been treated. Been told by managers they would rearrange my operation for next week and they would ring me by this afternoon to give me the date, well needless to say I have received no phone call

Dear Ms Peek,

I am so sorry to hear about your cancelled surgery.

I have spoken with the Directorate Manager today who confirmed that sadly we did not have a bed available for you anywhere in the hospital and so it would not have been safe to admit you for your surgery.

The surgery team are very much aware of your personal circumstances and they are doing their utmost to get another admission date sorted for you as soon as possible and they will be in touch.

Kind regards,

Andrew Harvey
