What I liked
I was a patient at RPH in two different wards. Intensive Care and the new Ward 11.
I ruptured my oesophagus and had major surgery. I do not remember my first 4 weeks in Intensive Care, but when i became properly conscious. The standard of my care was extremely good on all levels of nursing. I had quite a number of nurses looking after me, and I can say that I do not have a single complaint about any of them.
I came to the new ward 11 in March and spent about 4 weeks there. The first couple of weeks were very much a "learning curve" for staff and patients alike. None of the staff had worked together before, but made exceptional efforts to make sure the ward was run smoothly. The staff were all friendly and helpful, and the standard of care was very good indeed.
What could be improved
A very trivial comment really - at times in ward 11 there were "breakdowns in communication" sometimes. A couple of times I asked for assistance in taking a shower. The nurse I asked was due to go off duty and did not pass on my requests. This happened twice, but as I have said, the ward is very new, and small things like simple communication breakdown are to be accepted.
