"Feeling let down"

About: Kettering General Hospital

From 5 weeks pregnant I had problems with bleeding + cannot fault the care in terms of being scanned + reassured by the sonographer/midwife. I was told to call in between scans if advice was needed. This is where my faith in KGH disappeared. I called when I was struggling over the Xmas period with the bleeding I was having and was told by a midwife I was probably miscarrying + I would find out at my next scan. No support or advice offered. At my booking in appt I noted I had scoliosis + suffered back pain. It wasnt until past 20-30 weeks my midwife Said I should have been booked in with a consultant from the beginning of my pregnancy. I had struggled with coping at work until this point with back pain + had been signed off by my GP. Eventually I was referred and found the care just as bad when the sonographer felt it appropriate to discuss my pregnancy, care and details in the waiting room in front of waiting patients. No respect for my dignity or confidentiality at all. Between these appointments I had developed white blood cells in my urine and between my GP and KGH my sample was lost and the infection in this time had worsened resulting in me ending up at A+E referred by out of hours GP due to pain. When seeing the aneasthetist regarding pain relief options for my birth they requested a lung function test on myself but the anesthetist + HCA could not find the form to complete so they completely disregarded the test. At the same appointment 37-38 weeks pregnant I requested at the reception about an appt I was told at my last consultant appt would be sent via post but I had not yet received with a date for induction as my baby was measuring big. The receptionist told me my notes said no further appts needed + they could not book me in until September! My baby was due 12/8/15! This was very unhelpful. I had to eventually call my midwife + the consultants secretary just to get an appt I should have had planned already. Various other small issues throughout my pregnancy I had with the hospital I found could all have been avoided if the clinician/team member had of read the previous persons notes correctly and communication between departments + to myself was better. This brings me to my birthing experience, induction 10 days overdue. After 30 minutes of having the prosten I was having strong contractions with no break in between, the midwife removed prosten and allowed labour to progress naturally although there were no breaks in contractions I was treated with some pain relief and I felt things would be okay.My husband and myself suddenly realised when my waters broke how understaffed and stretched the midwifes were on Rowan Ward my husband was left cleaning me of my waters as the midwife took a while to get to me due to being "busy and understaffed" was told there was no room for me on labour ward + was left in pain + mess until they could get round to me. I felt my dignity was not respected+ embarassed others on the ward heard me in distress including men!

I am very sorry to hear about your experiences at KGH during your pregnancy and throughout the induction of your labour. In order to address the issues you have raised, I would very much like to meet with you to discuss these in more detail. If you would like to contact me to arrange a time to meet, my telephone number is 01536 492916.
