My boyfriend and I came to the A&E Department the other week. The receptionist on duty that decides whether or not you need to be seen is rude, discourteous and quite frankly offensive. I understand that it is a difficult job and that they are tired but the way they were speaking to people was unacceptable - I would never speak to anyone like they did to us. We were polite and queued and said hello - no response just name and age (as they did to all the previous people in their clipped tone) they then began to mock my boyfriend and when he said he had been to the doctor several times and said what else am I supposed to do they replied - 'I don't care what you do, don't get smart with me.' We were astonished, firstly he wasn't being rude or 'smart' (he is a 30 year old man not a 5 year old) and secondly they have no right to speak to him like that. We know everyone can't be seen but he was and still is in a lot of pain, maybe you could show some compassion! When I responded saying you don't have to be so rude, they responded with - really? Rude, antagonistic, vile person they give the hospital and the NHS a bad name! Will never return again.
