I had an operation on my polyps to be removed and a septoplasty. Before my operation all staff were very nice especially all involved in theatre, they are top staff. Coming back to the ward after my operation was fine too. I had to stay overnight due to my operation been later in the day, I was experiencing horrifuc headaches the next day but the nurses totally dismissed what I was telling them so I was discharged with paracetamol and codeine despite me telling staff it was having very little effect.
Not 24 hrs later I had to call an ambulance from home as the pain was so unbearable I felt like my head was going to explode. Ambulance was my last option as the ward number they give you to call incase you need advice does not get answered! So anyway after been assessed by quite a rude doctor in the assessment suites I was sent back to ward 10 to establish if anything further was going on and to get control of my pain. I had CT scans and bloodsand all were fine but I was still having horrifc pain and numbness in my face. Again all the nurses were making me feel that I was been soft and that it was not that bad. They were very dismissive still insisting on just paracetamol and codiene. After been on the ward 2 days in agony I eventually got another pain relief and this was only slightly better. At no point was my pain being controlled. The ward was very very noisy, I just wanted my curtains closed for privacy as I was in so much pain and extremely light sensitive but on 2 ocassions HCA opened my curtains without asking!
I was discharged after 3 days still in total agony and face numb. The nurse who discharged me was very patronising stating I only had a migraine and then asked what operation did I have? Surely they should be aware of patients history!
I told them I was not happybern discharged as I wasno further forward to when I was admitted but they contiued anyway to discharge me.
I got home and spent the night in agony so contacted my GP next day who came to my house and controlled my pain that hour!
I am still experiencing horrific head pain if I miss my pain killers or am late and my face is still numb a week after the operation but I am so reluctant to go back to the hospital as they ha e not helped me at all!
