Having had an unsuccessful L5 nerve root injection which was reviewed at the trauma clinic in January, I was referred to an MRI scan followed by a pre-op assessment on April 2 and was subsequently informed that the intended orthopaedic surgeon would probably not be able to operate on my back until about November. I opted to go with a different surgeon, having been told their waiting list was shorter and I may be able to get in in June/July.
I had an appointment with the specialist on June 12, which resulted in a second MRI on July 22. I was given the result of this via a telephone inquiry I made on Sept 2nd. I was told it took up to five weeks for MRI results to come through and mine was received on August 13. The upshot was "proceed with surgery as planned" and when I asked when that was likely to be I was told it would be "about two months". So much for the shorter waiting time !
Meanwhile my sciatica is getting worse and I remain unable to make future commitments because I feel I still don't have a clue when that appointment may be. I would add that non of this is a criticism of the staff who have all been professional in their approach. But I suggest the system needs re-examination to provide patients with better information.
