"Lack of communication between team and wards"

About: Royal Infirmary of Edinburgh at Little France / General Surgery

(as the patient),

At ward 205 of the ERI at 10: 00am in August to have an operation to stop the internal bleeding. I went as instructed after sitting for 2 hours in the day room. The staff nurse informed me that the ward did not know why I was there. So after they contacted the doctor I was told to go home and return for 7am the following day.

Told them I could not do that as I depend on public transport. They then informed me that they would put it down as a refusal of treatment and that I will have to wait up to 6 months for a new date. Meanwhile I have to attend a St Johns hospital every week to get blood transfusions to replace the blood lost.

They do not communicate between the pre assessment team and the ward.

Thank you for taking the time to comment on our services. I am very sorry that communication was not as it should have been in terms of involving you in the organisation of your care. I will share this with the staff concerned.

Best Wishes

Melanie
