My son had to have day surgery procedure and was referred by our dentist. The consultant's secretary was extremely helpful with regard holidays and giving as much help as they could with regard appointments etc. We went to clinic 11 for our appointment and again seeing how terrified my son was the staff helped as much as they could. Then came the wait for the procedure and again my son was terrified and with no news for several weeks, I was left to contact the secretary and again they were as helpful as they could be and forwarded my concerns to the booking staff. After a bit of badgering, we then spoke with the booking person who again explained that they understood our predicament with our son (now so terrified he was crying himself to sleep etc) and that they would call as soon as there was a cancellation. This they did and we got a date.
The afternoon of the procedure, the nurses at day surgery together with the anesthetist and surgeon were fantastic, they talked through every stage with my son and even managed to make him smile and by the time my son was called for the procedure although still nervous was much, much calmer.
Today we returned to clinic 11 for a post op check up and again the team were great. They treated my son as an person and not talking over him. I can not thank the consultant and their team enough for everything they have done.
Only thing that I would suggest is that the hospital in general work on the communication skills to keep patients updated on waiting times and not left in the dark feeling forgotten.
"Consultant and team fantastic"
