About: Barnsley Hospital

(as a relative),

What could be improved

The staff didnt know where my relative was (he wasnt in his bed)

He had just tried to kill himself by overdose but was placed on the chemo ward surrounded by old/dying people some of which were not of sound mind. This distressed him and our family greatly. No privacy to discuss his circumstances leading to his overdose which was an important issue which we needed to sdiscuss without embarrasment. I can appreciate that beds are limited but there was no compassion, given the reasons he was admitted. Yesterday the man in the bed next to him died and i feel that he shouldnt have been put in the situation where he had to watch someone else die after failing his attempts.

Thank you for your feedback. We are sorry that you were not happy with the way your relative was cared for. We do try very hard to ensure each and every patient’s privacy and dignity is respected during their stay with us.

If you would be so kind as to contact the hospital's Patient Advice and Liaison team, we will pass your comments on to the matron for attention.

The PALS team can be contacted on 01226 432430 or email john.armin@nhs.net
