I was admitted to the freeman for a total knee replacement on the 27 February 2014. After surgery I was transferred to ward 20, that same night myself and an other patient complained about the rubbish underneath the beds in the cubical I was in, no cleaners entered that cubical Thursday or Friday.
On the Saturday a member of staff from housekeeping came in and started cleaning, they removed quite a bit of rubbish including swabs to wet your lips as well as bits of paper nail clippings and general dirt, they deserves a medal and a promotion in their department because they cleaned every where that they could. The ceiling tiles were filthy and had flaking paint on them the entrance to the wash room had flaking paint to one of the walls.
This is not acceptable in any hospital in 2015, the majority of nursing staff on this ward did not reach the standard of care either. It was something that you had to put up with in the early days of the nhs but this is 2015 , last year I was on ward 19 for my first knee replacement and was over the moon about level of support from the nurses and the whole ward was spotless every where. I will never go back onto ward 20, I ended up walking out of the ward on the Sunday as u did not feel that the level of. Care and cleanliness was not met during my stay
"Dirty ward and uncaring staff"
