"Recent knee replacemet"

About: Kettering General Hospital

I was admitted to KGH on 20th August for a total knee replacement to my right leg. Having experienced the same op on my left knee some 3 years ago I was aware that it is quite a major operation and can be extremely painful afterwards so to put it mildly I was not looking forward to it at all.

Clearly the nursing and admin staff are aware of all this and from the very first momemnt of admission made every effort to induce a calming effect on everyone. I was swiftly and cheerfully administered and paperwork completed with the minimum of fuss. A long chat with my surgeon resulted in me feeling much more relaxed and confident. The advice from the anaethesist convinced me re my choice of anaesthetic and I was grateful for expert advice.

I went down to the theatre and it was simply mind boggling to realise just how may people were involved, directly and indirectly, in just my operation. The anaethestist was simply the best and along with their colleague soon had me prepared for the operating table.

I was semi-concious at first but they gave me some knock out drops just before the surgeon started. When I was awakened it was all over.

The aftercare in Ashton Ward was superb, the staff so friendly and caring and what's more the food was excellent.

I was up and walking with a Zimmer the next day and back home three days later. I am walking by myself now and even go up and down the stairs unaided just over a week after the operation.

In closing I would just like to thank every single person at KGH, from the top to the bottom, for making my short stay there as comfortable, pleasant and as successful possible. This is only my second ever visit to a hospital in my 68 years on the planet so I have nothing elso to compare it with but whoever reads these reports please make sure that this is received at KGH as their praises are very well deserved

Yours sincerely

Thank you for taking the time to write to us about you experience at our Hospital. As you are aware we treat many patients with varying conditions and patients often feel apprehensive when they first arrive at the Clinic.

I will certainly pass on your nice comments to all the staff who work so hard to ensure that every patient is cared for in a caring and compassionate manner.

I wish you well on your journey to recovery.
