"Lovely experience on Burstow"

About: East Surrey Hospital

I came onto Burstow on the 25th August for an elective c section. From the moment we arrived we were made to feel welcome and comfortable. Everything that was going to happen was explained to us at every step. On the ward I was introduced to everyone who would care for us that day and then when we went to theatre we met some of the theatre team before going in. I was second on the list that day but was never left alone too long, it's a nerve wracking wait! Once in theatre everyone once again did everything possible to make what can be a very scary experience very calming and kept us informed of what they were doing and why. We even had some music playing, cheesy 80's power ballads I believe! As soon as my daughter was born we were able to see her as the screen was lowered. I had her in my line of sight the whole time the midwife was checking her over and then I was able to have that precious skin to skin. Missing out on natural childbirth can be very upsetting but they made the experience memorable for the right reasons and I wish I could thank them all individually for treating us with such kindness and dignity. The midwife who looked after us before and during the op and the person who cared for us in recovery and then down on the ward were amazing. I know they see a lot of people however maybe that might jog their memory. The aftercare on Burstow was great also and I met some lovely members of the team who are so caring and companionate. We so often leave negative reviews and feedback but I really wanted to take some time to express our gratitude and thank people for their kindness. They have such an important job to do and not everyone does it with such compassion. Thank you.

Dear E Kel

Congratulations on the birth of your daughter and thank you for finding the time to give such great feedback about your experience of having your daughter at East Surrey Hospital. Communication is an essential part of feeling relaxed and reassured when you are in hospital and I know our midwifery team will be pleased to hear that they made you feel welcome, comfortable and informed. I will make sure that your feedback is passed on to them.

With best wishes

Cathy White
