"Staff attitude"

About: The Princess Royal Hospital / Gastroenterology

(as a relative),

I went to visit my dad on ward 9 who had been admitted with seizures in the first half of hour. I had been there he kept saying about pain in his back. I went to the nurse station, who I presumed was a nurse was on the phone, which from what I can gather was a personal phone call. The nurse did not acknowledge me at all, when they had finished they didn't ask if they could help just started going on about hand Over to other members of staff, I then said excuse me can I speak to you about my dad and before I could say who he was the nurse said and who is your dad, I then told the nurse and that he was in pain and I had checked his drug chart which he had been prescribed pain relief and none had been given and the nurse turned around and said I'm in charge and handing over to the nurse who will be in charge of him, then they will deal with him, I said ok and thank you.

I went back and sat with him until visiting was over in which time I observed a health care doing blood tests on 2 patients didn't gel wash their hands before nor in between patients and also in between took someone's urine pot out to empty not washing hands.

On leaving same nurse still sat at nurse station not doing a lot neither did they say anything to me. NOT a very good ambassador for the NHS. I work for the NHS and I was ashamed. I think this young lady wants the status but obviously has not got the experience to deal with the public and all that comes with the job.
