I have nothing but praise for the wonderful care I received in the Churchill radiography department yesterday for my outpatient MRCP (MRI) scan. I am profoundly claustrophobic and, despite having obtained a pre-med tablet from my GP, felt that I would be unable to go into the confined space of the MRI scanner without having a panic attack. I explained my fears to the radiographer on arrival and they booked me into the fast MRI scanner (reducing scan time from 45 minutes to 15).They also listened to my fears about having the coil belt resting on my stomach, and provided a cage to support it above me, which put no weight on my body at all. I chose to cover my eyes throughout which helped, and the radiographer talked me through each short part of the scan which helped me to remain still and calm. My friend was allowed to stay in the room with me at all times. I was not expecting to be able to go through with the scan at all, and am so grateful for the professional and calm support I received. Thank you!
