"Satisfactory care upon Emergency Admission."

About: Queen Alexandra Hospital

I visited the Emergency Department due to feeling unwell and being advised by NHS 111 to go to the ED. Good service in the ED, has bloods and a ECG done almost immediately and the staff were very kind and reassuring. Was then put in a cubicle where i was hooked up to monitors and eventually given IV fluids and antibiotics. Good service in the ED although very slow and not very forthcoming with explanations regarding my test results.

I was eventually moved up onto the Yellow Acute Medical Ward where i had a peaceful night. Nurses on the Yellow ward were slow to answer patient calls and looked clearly annoyed when a patient pressed their call button even though it is their job to answer it appropriately and i heard one nurse swear under their breath. The doctors were brilliant however and i am very grateful to them.

Thank you very much for taking the time to provide both your positive and negative feedback about your experiences in the Emergency Department and on the Yellow Acute Medical Ward.

Please be assured that your comments regarding information provided about your test results and the staff's attitude regarding answering call bells has been shared with the Teams involved for learning purposes. I hope you are now feeling well and wish you all the best for the future.

Should you ever need to share your views with us direct, good or bad, then please contact our PALS Team on PHT.PALS@porthosp.nhs.uk who will be happy to help and advise.
