"Staff are willing to assist with a smile"

About: Victoria Hospital / General Medicine

(as a relative),

My partner has recently had a stroke and requires assistance with almost everything; mobility, elimination, washing and dressing, eating and drinking.

I have noticed over the period of time that my partner has been in this very demanding ward, that staff have been scarse and that there seams to be a shortage of staff. Although to my surprise, the exhaustion and stresses from the lack of hands does not limit the care that the nursing and auxilliary staff show. However tired the staff are always helpfull and willing to assist with a smile.

I just want to share my thanks to the staff for not becoming downhearted/ deflated and for always being friendly, supportive and caring to my partner and his family and friends.

Dear 42smiles

Thank you for taking the time to tell us about your experience. I was sorry to hear about your husband's situation which must be very difficult for you. Isn't it incredible what a smile can do.... I am delighted to hear that staff are supportive and caring despite the very real day to day pressures. I am also pleased to hear that the staff are supporting not only the patient but family and friends also, which is equally important.

We have recently carried out a nurse staffing review which resulted in us recruiting additional staff. Again, we do recognise the demands on these busy areas.

I will make sure I pass your feedback on so that the staff can see what a good job they are doing.

Thanks for sharing.

Louise Ewing
