"Visit to A&E with back pain"

About: East Surrey Hospital / Accident and emergency

(as the patient),

I am under investigation by pain team and am under constant guidance from GP. However on in August I went to A&E desperate for some help with my pain. I was assessed by a senior staff nurse who sent me straight to rapid assessment to be triaged, a doctor saw me straight away.

I then had to ask for pain relief as was given none, the doctor then came back and said I was already on so many meds they couldn't do anything. The Registrar then came and said my GP needs to decide what is more important my psychiatric problems or my pain. I was hysterical by this point begging him to help me. He said I should be priority for help as I'm an NHS staff, I said this doesn't happen. I was told to return to my GP who has tried everything to help me.

I don't want any special treatment but seeing as I have witnessed what patients have been admitted to hospital before, I can say they could have admitted me for pain control. I did return to my GP, who also said the registrar could have done this he just chose not to.
