About: Northumbria Specialist Emergency Care Hospital

I was admitted via ambulance on a Sunday night with extremely painful stomach pain. Naturally I was apprehensive about being in a new hospital however I was soon feeling reassured with the fantastic care of the team. I was admitted to ward 3.

I was given brilliant care in a very compassionate way, the nursing staff where making sure if I was kept comfortable with pain relief, and even helping me with things I had forgotten like tooth brush and shampoo thank you.

I had surgery in the morning again the surgeons were lovely, treating me as an individual and involved in the decisions. Thank you very much!

Finally I really wanted to mention the extras, parking was fantastic for my visitors lots of easy accessible spaces and cost effective. The rooms on ward 3 were much bigger than any I have previously been in and the menu was amazing, I thought I was in the Nuffield for a moment. Lastly the TVs, touch screen and free! I once spent 2 months in the RVI spending a total of £130 so having free TVs was really delightful to see.

All in all I have to say although I wish my stay was avoidable, I am more than impressed in the New Hospital, the staff, facilities and the very clear emphasis on patient experience. Thank you!

Dear Louisa,

What a lovely review ! Many thanks for taking time to highlight all the big issues, as well as the little things, that contributed to your excellent care.

I wish your stay had been avoidable too but delighted that, once it was clear that you would have to stay with us,we managed to impress you in every way.

This sort of appreciation means the world to our teams and I will make sure they have the opportunity to read it. You've said some very thoughtful things about our staff.

A great deal of planning and thought went into the design of The Northumbria - we're very grateful to all the staff and local communities who contributed to these discussions - it's so lovely to hear that you feel the hospital has been built with our patients in mind.

I hope your recovery at home is going well. Please come back to us if there's anything you need.

With all best wishes,

Annie
