"Disappointed with cleanliness at Cheltenham General Hospital"

About: Cheltenham General Hospital

(as the patient),

I was recently taken into Cheltenham General Hospital and ended up in the Medical Assessment Unit.

I was disappointed in the cleanliness of the unit. The soap dispenser in the toilet didn't work and the alarm in the toilet didn't function either. There was a functioning washbasin and soap dispenser OUTSIDE the toilet but it wasn't used by patients who came out of the toilet.

Though the ward was cleaned daily it was very superficial and one cleaner spent all his time walking slowly up and down with a 'dry mop' just up the middle of the ward while a piece of paper was left under one of the beds the whole time I was in the ward (three days).

Some of the staff were very helpful and sympathetic when I was in a distressed condition but others seemed to have no time for the patients. I watched as some nurses walked 'busily' around and then turned around walking back as if to look busy rather than with any particular aim or objective.

As far as I could see neither the nurses nor the doctors washed their hands between examining patients.
