"Hip Replacement Ward 3"

About: Hexham General Hospital

This is my first review of anything- but I feel compelled to comment as I am so grateful for the experience I had.

I cannot fault any of the treatment I received during my recent hip replacement. All the ward staff were caring, kind, observant & professional but also made me feel that they were there for me as an individual and wanted to do the job well. The coffee & toast I received after returning from theatre was the tastiest I have ever had & the rest of the food was good as well- (makes a difference I think)

It was lovely having my own room & bathroom. I have never had private healthcare & I am never likely to, but I can't see how you could pay for anything better.

it wasn't just Ward 3 that was excellent, but everyone at the pre-op stage, in the operating room (from what I remember) & in recovery.

It is my first real experience as a patient & I was worried about being dependent & needing help, but I always felt involved in my care & the decisions that were made.

I left hospital the next day & I am doing great back at home with the follow up call from the Ward to make sure all is well.

I travelled over an hour and a half to get to Hexham & it was well worth the journey.

Please pass on my gratitude to the whole team for making a scary time into a positive experience

Kindest Regards

Catherine

Dear Carherine,

Many thanks for taking the time to share your story with us As this is your first ever review, we're delighted it is such a possive one - we feel very honoured !

Your thoughtful description of care highlights all the things that we want our staff to pay attention to every day. I am glad that you felt so well for, not only whilst you were on ward 3 but also once you returned home - we want our patients to feel this way.

Our estates and facilities team will be delighted to read your comments about the quality of the ward environment and our food. Thank you for giving us the opportunity to acknowledge their efforts as well as the skills of the orthopaedic team.

I hope recovery at home is going really well Catherine and that your pain is minimal. I know you don't live locally but please don't hesitate to come back to us if you have any questions - our orthopaedic helpline is also a great source of support should you need it.

With kind regards,

Annie
