"Absolutely deplorable"

About: Barnsley Hospital

Back in 2010 I was referred to Gyne. I was experiencing heavy uncontrollable bleeding, that had a long history. I had a few tests and staff seemed baffled. The consultants I saw over the following 3years left a lot to be desired in there attitude and there professionalism. They just seemed to be constantly treating me for the symptoms but never once investigating the actual cause, despite our questions. I was in a scared emotional state.Myself and my husband was feeling more annoyed at every visit,as to be honest it all seemed a complete waste of time. Eventually I was put on progesterone tablets to stop the bleeding and sent on my way,I was discharged. They hadn't sorted the problem,it had just been patched up. We was advised by another medical person who didn't work at the hospital to try another certain hospital in Sheffield. We did and wow what a marked difference. The staff were amazing and so lovely. We are now under a wonderful consultant, who has taken me seriously and after tests booked me in for a operation. What the doctor found amazed even them.

The doctor corrected things and I am now on treatment that is working. I wasn't going to complain but now I feel is the right time. We have been through a horrendous journey, that just needed some to take time to investigate things and not just treat the cause. The comment was made to us on the 1st visit to Sheffield,as to why Barnsley had put me on the progesterone,as they couldn't understand the logic that had lead to that decision. While being under the care of the Sheffield hospital, staff have commented that they hear lots of patients that have had bad experiences a Barnsley. We both avoid Barnsley at all costs now.
