What could be improved

Communications between medical staff- there was an overall lack of communication on all levels with doctors not knowing the patients history (even with a pile of notes to hand) and the handover was not up to standard.

Communication to the family was inadequate and we were made to feel like we were in the way on many occasions. Basic care was poor- my father was on the critical ward for a number of weeks and the nurses neglected to make sure he was comfortable, ie oral health care.

Anything else?

On making a complaint about the standard of care and communication we did have a meeting with the care team and discussed how things could be improved etc- it was a positive outcome but does not make up for my fathers stay which will haunt my family and I for many years to come.
