"Leave the UK to appreciate the NHS"

About: Westmorland General Hospital

I have been living in Sydney, Australia for 15 years up until the death of my mother. I returned to my first home - the UK in 2014. In that time I have had a few routine visits to the GP and 3 visits to Westmorland - once for a breast screening consultation and tests. The other 2 regarding a potential hip replacement operation. I am young and fit but have arthritis due to sporting wear and tear. Each time I have visited the hospital, despite its dilapidated 60's pre-fab look on the outside, the hospital is spotless, the staff professional and friendly, and more than anything, the wait time zero! I have been seen promptly each time and have 'moved through the system' with efficiency and care. If you ever want to appreciate what is under your nose, go and live in another country - USA, Australia...and find out the true cost of health services and/or the lack of customer service and care. Well done NHS Cumbria!
