My husband and I were made to feel worthless by the reception staff and the rude triage nurse who initially dealt with my husband. it was a Monday lunch time and I brought my husband into A&E suffering from severe chest pains. My husband is 60 and was in alot of distress,. We were made to sit for 45 minutes with people staring at us as my husband groaned with the pain. On being called into triage, the nurse was rude, short and dismissive of us both. They even said "Don't collapse on the floor as I can't pick you up!" I had to insisit on some form of pain killer for my husband who was at that timeunable to speak coherently. They then expalined that they were busy and we would have to wait some time for an ECG and to see a doctor. The next 45 minutes were dreadful, my husband whilst banging the chair with his hand was apologising to those around him for being in so much pain. finally we were called into to have an ECG!
From then on I cannot fault thestaff who attended to my husband. They were outstanding and saved his life! He was escorted by police to another hospital for heart surgery.
Make sure you don't shout loud in A&E Aand don't be apologetic and nice as it gets you nowhere!
"Our experience in A&E was disgusting!"
