When my little boy was 7 weeks old, I developed pancreatitis as a complication of gallstones.
The out of hours doctor came to my house to tell me that my blood tests taken earlier that day showed that I was unwell and needed to go into hospital. My son was tiny and exclusively breastfed, and I didn't want to leave him, or to give him formula if it could be avoided.
The hospital staff and management were so helpful and supportive, allowing me to bring my baby into the hospital where I was able to care for him, while they cared for me.
The Consultant was very understanding and allowed me to go home to wait for my operation, going out of his way to ensure that things happened quickly whilst avoiding needless separation from my young children.
The whole experience was very positive and I was so pleased that my decision to breastfeed was supported throughout.
