"District Nurses"

I lost my 31 year old daughter in April 2015, to lymphoma. In her final weeks we chose for her to stay at home and not go into St Lukes to be cared for.

We were supported by a team of district nurses who work over three shifts o ensure that 24 hour care is available when necessary.

Every one of those nurses arrived and left taking with them a slice of our stress and unhappiness. They were, without exception, positive, caring and very professional. They came to our home, accommodated our peculiarities and cared for her to the very highest standard. Without them, we couldn't have looked after her at home.

By having them there, we were able to spend our precious time together as a family and her was able to o surrounded by all those she loved, in her own home.

They never failed us, and throughout the time they were there, they were wonderfully positive, professional and did so much more than we ould ever have imagined they could.

When she died, it was in the care of a little nurse called Kyra Turner, who, over the preceeding weeks had been our angel. She made the most unbearable day, bearable and somehow managed to take care of our grieving family, as well as gems. This must have been the most awful experience for her, yet, she was calm and very much in full control and her professionalism and compassion proved her to be one in a million. When people are criticising our healthcare, they should be made aware of these angels!
