About: Pontefract General Infirmary

(as a relative),

What I liked

I have now been treated by the physio at Pontefract for the last 10 weeks. Overall my experiences have been positive. The staff have been helpful and positive which leads me onto the flip side of the coin regarding my father’s time spent at PGI. He was admitted with breathing difficulties in early September this year. The ward he was admitted onto was to say the least filthy and the nurse and other staff were not treating a patient with the respect anyone deserves when going through as much pain and suffering as my father was. When you can see that a 74 year old man is in tears with pains in his lungs. You would expect the nurse attending not to take off on a remedial task and not return for 20min when they are halfway through taking details and blood of the person concerned. Also to take blood from a patient with equipment that still has dried blood from another patient dried in the bottom of the stainless steel bowl was disgusting. When I alerted the doctor that was attending my father it was looked on as the norm. At no point did either the doctor or nurse question each other why such equipment was being used. Then to top it off another member of staff rushing to get the results of a machine that was being used to get vital details of my father condition because it was time to as they put it to clock off. This same person personal hygiene left much to be desired.

What could be improved

Staff awareness and attitude towards patients

Anything else?

As Above
