"When you get a positive test result -..."

About: Medway Maritime Hospital

First visit - Doctor asked why I had been referred to haematology not neurology. Apparently my blood test results were not bad enough for me to suffer any symptoms. But as I was there they did take blood for a specialised test.

When I went back for the results all the Doctor kept saying was 'I'm sorry'. They went on to say the test result came back positive for the JAK2 mutation, Told me I was at high risk and when asked for information about the diagnosis I was told that they didn't have any but I could Google it. Not the best way to find out you have a form of blood cancer!

The Doctor wrote to my GP saying that it was a possible diagnosis - I was to have regular blood tests (not how regular) and if my count goes above I was to have chemotherapy.

How to feel bewildered, confused and out on a limb where nobody wants to help!
